The City of Garland Cultural Arts Department is dedicated to enriching the community by fostering creativity, celebrating diversity, and supporting artistic expression. Through dynamic programming, engaging events, and accessible public spaces, the department provides opportunities for residents and visitors to experience the arts in meaningful ways.
As stewards of cultural enrichment, the department manages the Granville Arts Center, Plaza Theatre, and Downtown Garland’s art initiatives, offering a variety of performances, exhibitions, and workshops. From theatrical productions and concerts to visual arts showcases and community festivals, the department ensures that the arts remain a vital and vibrant part of Garland’s identity.
By collaborating with local artists, organizations, and educators, the Cultural Arts Department nurtures creativity and inspires a shared appreciation for the arts, making Garland a destination for culture and innovation.

What We Do
Volunteer with the City of Garland Cultural Arts Department!
The City of Garland Cultural Arts Department welcomes enthusiastic volunteers to help support and enhance the arts in our city! Whether you have a love for theater, music, visual arts, or community events, there are many ways to get involved.
Ways You Can Help as a Volunteer:
- Event Support – Assist with concerts, theater performances, art exhibits, and festivals by welcoming guests, handing out programs, and providing general event support.
- Gallery & Exhibit Assistance – Help set up and maintain art exhibits, interact with visitors, and share information about featured artists.
- Theater Ushers – Greet patrons, show them to their seats, and ensure they have an enjoyable experience at performances at the Granville Arts Center and Plaza Theatre.
- Community Arts Programs – Support educational and outreach programs, art workshops, and cultural initiatives that inspire creativity across all ages.
- Photography & Social Media – Capture event moments, assist with social media content, and help spread the word about cultural events in Garland.

Volunteering with the City of Garland Cultural Arts Department
Volunteer Requirements:
- Complete an orientation to learn about our mission, events, and expectations.
- Commit to a minimum of 48 hours per year (or an average of 4 hours per month).
- Work as a team player with other volunteers and staff to ensure a positive experience for al.
- Represent the Cultural Arts Department professionally and serve as an advocate for the arts in Garland.
- Register and commit to all registered opportunities.
Volunteers have the opportunity to assist with theater ushering, event support, gallery exhibits, arts workshops, and more!
