Code Cares Volunteer Project
Neighborhood Yard Cleanup and Volunteer Training Project
Volunteer Garland is seeking volunteers to assist with a special Code Cares community service project helping an elderly Garland resident who is currently hospitalized and unable to maintain their property.
This project will focus on trimming overgrown vegetation, improving visibility and accessibility around the property, and helping restore the yard to a safer condition for the resident and neighborhood.
This opportunity is also part of Volunteer Garland’s developing "Volunteer University” initiative, where volunteers can learn practical community service and basic lawn care skills while working alongside City staff and community volunteers.

Project Details
Date: Wednesday, May 13, 2026; If inclement weather, will reschedule for Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Same time.
Time: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Location: 613 W. Vista Drive, Garland, TX
Volunteer Opportunities
We are looking for volunteers willing to help in a variety of ways, including:
Trimming overgrown vegetation
Learning how to safely use lawn care equipment
Moving brush and debris to the designated dropoff area
Assisting team leaders with general cleanup efforts
Supporting neighbors and building community connections
No experience is necessary.
Some volunteers may help operate equipment while others may simply assist by moving debris and helping with cleanup. Both roles are equally important to the success of the project.
Equipment and Supplies
Volunteer Garland will provide:
Bottled water
Work gloves
Three pole trimmers
We currently have very limited equipment and are especially in need of:
Lawn mowers
Weed eaters
Rakes
Clippers
Loppers
Hand tools for yard work and cleanup
If you own lawn care equipment or hand tools and are willing to bring them, your support would greatly help the project. We will do what we can with what we have.
Volunteer Training Opportunity
This project is intended to be both a service opportunity and a hands-on learning experience.
Volunteers interested in learning how to safely use lawn care equipment will have the opportunity to receive basic guidance and training during the project. Volunteers who do not wish to use equipment are absolutely welcome to participate by assisting with debris removal and cleanup support.
We especially need many helping hands to move cut vegetation and debris to the designated dropoff point so Garland Sanitation can collect it the following day.
Age Requirements
This opportunity is open to volunteers ages 12 and older.
Project Goal
Our goal is not only to help a resident in need, but also to create a positive and welcoming environment where neighbors can meet, make friends, learn new skills, and work together to improve the community.
We hope this will be a fun, meaningful, and community focused evening of service
